What goes at the foot of every message
A signature is not an affectation: it is your business card at the foot of every exchange. A customer wanting to ring you back finds the number without hunting, and the message looks as though it comes from a company rather than from an anonymous address.
In the settings, mail section, the signatures heading offers Add a signature: a name so you can find it again, then the text, with whatever formatting you choose. Save it.
What goes in, what stays out
The essentials fit in four lines: your first name and surname, your job title, the company name, a direct telephone number. You may add the workshop address and the website. Leave out quotations, heavy images and twelve-line legal warnings that nobody reads.
Several signatures
Nothing stops you having two: a full one for a first contact, a short one for replies within a running discussion. While writing, the quill icon lets you change signature, or use none at all.
A detail that matters
The signature only appears if rich formatting is switched on in the writing window. If your signature seems to have vanished, that is almost always where to look.
A plain signature is a signature that gets read. Four lines, a telephone number that works, no 300-kilobyte logo repeated at every reply in a twenty-message thread.
In closing
A signature is your business card at the foot of every exchange. A name, a role, a number: the customer who wants to call you back finds it without hunting, and that is all it has to do.
