Reading your figures without being an accountant

Three questions, three answers

Camille is not an accountant. She wants three answers: are we making money, who owes us, and does next month look promising. Cydoo answers all three without her opening a ledger.

Are we making money

The profit and loss statement compares what came in and what went out over a period. Choose "this year" and you have your answer. It is not an estimate: these are your real invoices, the ones you issued and received.

An issued invoice is not money received. The result counts what you invoiced; cash counts what actually reached the bank. Both are true, they answer different questions.

Who owes us money

The aged balance sorts unpaid invoices by age: under 30 days, 30 to 60, beyond. A customer drifting to the right of that table deserves a phone call before they deserve a chasing letter.

And next month

Quotes awaiting signature give the measure of what may come. It is not money in hand, but it is an order of magnitude, and it is drawn from your own documents.

The support behind it: all these statements export to a spreadsheet for your accountant. If yours wants a particular format, support can set it up once and for all.

In closing

Are we making money, who owes us, what will next month look like: those three answers come from your own documents, with no spreadsheet and without being an accountant. Just keep in mind that an invoice issued is not yet money received.
