What you sell, what you consume
An item is anything you sell or use up: an oak board, a hinge, an hour of fitting.
Stock levels: what is left, where, and what is nearing its threshold.
Three kinds of item

Only make storable what you genuinely count. Declaring screws as storable means counting them one by one, nobody keeps that up for more than three weeks.
Stock keeps itself
You do not have to enter movements: delivering an order takes goods out, receiving a purchase brings them in. Stock is a consequence of what you do, not extra work.
The reordering threshold
For materials you never want to run out of, set a threshold. Below it, Cydoo tells you. Les Ateliers set one on three timbers only, the ones that stop the workshop if they run out.
The support behind it: loading an opening inventory, importing a supplier catalogue, fixing stock that has drifted, these are routine jobs we do with you. A wrong inventory can always be put right.
In closing
Stock is not extra work: it is the consequence of your sales and purchases. Only count what deserves counting, set a threshold on the materials that would stop the workshop, and let the rest look after itself.
