This is the question people always ask last and ought to ask first: how long does it last, and who deals with it.

It lasts a long time, and here is why

A battery sensor spends most of its life asleep. It wakes, measures, sends, goes back to sleep. It is the radio transmission that uses the power, not the measurement. Depending on the model and the rhythm, you count in years, not weeks.

Two things shorten that. The rhythm: a sensor reporting every minute runs down far faster than one reporting every quarter of an hour. And the cold: a battery in a cold room or outdoors gives less than one in an office. An outdoor sensor therefore gets replaced more often than a corridor one, and that is normal.

The right rhythm

It is decided by the trade, not by appetite. Kiln humidity moves slowly: a reading every fifteen minutes is plenty, and that still leaves ninety-six a day. An electricity meter you want to watch more closely. Measuring more often than necessary does not make the watch any better: it drains batteries and fills up curves.

You do not have to keep an eye on batteries. The level comes back with the readings, and an alarm fires when it gets low, well before failure. You do not discover a dead battery, you are warned about a fading one.

Who changes the battery

Depending on your contract, Cybelia does it on a visit, or you do: most housings open with a quarter turn and take a standard cell. No setting follows the change, the sensor picks its measurement back up on its own and keeps its name, its location and its history.

Good practice

Group them. If three sensors in one workshop are two years old, change all three on the same day rather than going back three times. One small line in the annual maintenance diary is enough, next to the fire extinguisher check.
