The problem before
A company of 34 people has computers, servers, accounts and backups. Each of them works. But nobody looks at the whole picture. When something is off, a workstation that has had no update for six months, a backup that quietly stopped running, a password tried three times in a row, the information does exist somewhere, in a log nobody ever opens.
The problem is almost never the dramatic attack. It is the small detail that went unnoticed for months.
What the Security Center changes: it watches continuously, it takes note, and it brings to the surface whatever deserves a look. You no longer have to open a log: the tool comes to you, and only when it is worth it.
What that looks like in practice
At Les Ateliers du Vent d'Ouest, 21 machines are monitored. This morning the screen shows two open alerts: an unknown USB stick plugged into a workshop computer, and three password attempts on the front-desk machine. Both have already been looked at. The stick was analysed, nothing came of it. The front-desk account protected itself.
That is the normal rhythm of a small company. Seeing two lines is not a bad sign: it is proof that someone is watching.
What it is not
It is not yet another antivirus, and it is not a tool that watches you. It looks at machines and accounts, not at the contents of your documents or your private conversations.
In closing
Security is almost never short of tools: it is short of somewhere that looks at the whole and raises a hand. That is the only thing the Security Center does, and it is the thing that changes everything.
